SashaLouise – New Star of Latex Fashion
By Rollerblade on September 24, 2012
Our pick of this year’s London Alternative Fashion Week was SashaLouise, a graduate of London College of Fashion. While studying for her degree, she was involved in designing pieces for the Ballet Rousse, which was later showcased at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
After using latex as a material in her collection and degree show, she quickly decided that this was the material for her. “Everyone looks good in latex,” she explains. “It’s completely different from any other fabric, but it can be used in so many different ways, and that’s what I like to do – to find new ways to work with latex. I like to be experimental.”
With a pioneering punk aesthetic, similar to that of Vivienne Westwood’s subversive designs from the 1970s, Sashalouise has an innovative and provocative style.
Sashalouise’s latex designs shake up the fashion rules, with torn fabrics, lace-up garments and one-of-a-kind marbled fabric. Her clothes have a sharply tailored look and a keen silhouette, but also a deconstructed, destroyed look that is both rebellious and subversive.
Now working with Kim West, one of Britain’s top latex designers, SashaLouise has her designs on Kim’s Luxury Latex site at www.luxurylatex.co.uk/pages/designer-profile-sashalouise
