Ocar Wilde’s Salome in London 6th-18th November
By Rollerblade on November 5, 2007
Oscar Wilde’s masterpiece ‘Salome’ gets the full-frontal fetish treatment in a dazzling and provocative new production by Andy McQuade (co-founder of controversial theatre company Act Provocateur International). Set in the chillout area of a debauched club, where nightclub King Herod devours everyone and anything, the evening’s revelries are spiced up by the mystical Iokanaan and Salome’s infatuation with him. As all three figures draw closer and closer the night is destined to end in tragedy.
This drama/black comedy sets out to explore the central issue of Lust. Is it, as many believe Wilde is saying, the cause of all evil? Or is it the repression of it that ultimately damns us all?
