Legendary porn star-turned-performance artist and sex scholar Annie Sprinkle returns to London for the International Workshop Festival’s twentieth anniversary with Love Art Lab 19 – 22 September in London, UK.
Annie and Elizabeth embrace the capital with Love Art Lab, incorporating both the multi faceted performance Exposed: Experiments In Love, Sex, Death and Art, and Extreme Kissing, a very special workshop exploring eroticism and performance through the power of the kiss.

Annie Sprinkle began her career as a porn star and pin-up model, working proudly as a prostitute for twenty years in Manhattan. Since the eighties she has become internationally known as a multi-media artist, her work studied in history of performance art classes, gender and film studies within universities. She has continually toured autobiographical performances such as . A key player in the 80’s ‘Sex positive feminist movement’, the film she produced and directed, The Sluts and Goddesses Video Workshop has played in over 100 film festivals, museums and galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Annie Sprinkle became the first sex film star to successfully bridge into the world of performance art, earning a PhD, awarded from the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality – San Francisco, in 2002. She is a popular visiting artist at many Universities and her autobiographical book, Post Porn Modernist broke new ground in sexually oriented imagery. Another book Hard Core From the Heart; The Pleasures, Profits and Politics of Sex in Performance was published by Continuum Press for the academic market and won the Firecracker Alternative Book Award in 2002.
Her collaborator and real-life partner, Elizabeth M. Stephens is a Professor of Art and of Digital Art/New Media and is affiliated with the Department of Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Currently, she chairs their prestigious Art Department. Stephens is an inter-media artist who works in sculpture, video installation, photography, web based media, performance art and home renovation. Her most recent works include the bronze sculptural installation, The Academic/Porn Star Panty Collection; the road trip performance piece Wish You Were Here; the video installation, Kiss, as well as her ongoing collaboration with Annie Sprinkle in the Love Art Laboratory. She has exhibited in museums, galleries and non-profit spaces throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Russia.
EXPOSED: EXPERIMENTS IN LOVE, SEX, DEATH & ART is a unique love story, documenting the Annie and Elizabeth’s relationship and created in response to the violence of war and the anti-gay marriage movement. This powerful piece examines issues of artificial insemination, famous breasts having breast cancer, queer relationships and more. Fusing elements of pleasure, pain and passion, Annie and Elizabeth present this inspirational work with warmth, sensuality and candour. Wednesday 19th – Saturday 22th September at 8.00 pm
EXTREME KISSING Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens present this inimitable workshop exploring kissing as art and intervention, as show business and as an intimate act. The first hour of the workshop will be in the Chelsea Theatre. Participants will then emerge onto the Kings Road for a 2 hour continuous kiss. Bring a partner – or find one on the Kings Road.
